There are so many ways to make your even sparkle without draining your wallet. All it takes is a little DIY, passion for the result and some help from your friends. 1. Write down the theme of your event 2. Visualize it 3. Set a budget (yes its third because you should visualize, then fit that into you budget, that way you are more apt to figure out a way to make it happen) 4. Ask friends where they have had events 5. Use Social Media, ie Facebook, Twitter, etc for venues that offer specials during what days or times of year 6. If you a talent and need another, offer to barter with someone 7. Set up a paypal account, friends or family could offer to donate or share expenses 8. Visit the big member stores like BJ's or Costco and price out their platters (you will find a HUGE discount here instead of using a caterer for the cocktail hour, etc) 9. Ask around for caterers, you'd be surprised who your family or friends know, and how much you can save and yet have a delicious meal 10. Use the Internet, you can buy in bulk from places such as The Dollar Tree, etc. with free shipping to the store nearest you. For instance, I saw the wonderful cake stand I wanted for my wedding, but it was $1200.00, and I just couldn't see that. I went into my DIY state of mind, and not only did I have it, I had 9 stands that were lighted. And it costs me $125.00. Don't be afraid of to ask for help, after all two heads are better than one. Lastly, don't let stress get the best of you. The more you do ahead of time the more time you have to enjoy your event. If your doing favors, do them a few months ahead of time, pack them away and go to the next thing on your list. The more you do ahead of time, the less likely you'll be out there shopping and see something else that catches your eye. Like with most things, first is best. Even if your not crafty, you can have items digitally done, sent to you, and you just have to print. No laser printer at home, no problem, save to cd, bring to Staples, etc. and your printer your design saving money. There are alot of graphic artists who do this quite inexpensively, from your invites, cupcake wrappers to favors. Don't ever think you can't have sparkle, all it takes is a little desire, time and belief in yourself. Until the next time Terry |
